A Cake Smash for Carielle Unique

First birthdays are special. It not only marks your little one’s transition from infant to toddler. It means that you made it through a year of motherhood. These sessions can be about so much more than the cake. It’s about capturing your baby as he or she is. I try to include favorite toys and showcase the things they can do. I want you to remember the unique things about your little one during this specific stage in their lives.

Carielle’s mom requested a sugarfree cake and Sweetheart Treats created exactly what we needed. We kept the cake smash scene simple so that Carielle stayed the main focus. We started off with a few minutes of Carielle playing with her xylophone and the pearls her daddy gave her. Then, we captured her standing assisted playing with a stool. I also made sure to capture her details - the texture of her hair, her tiny teeth, and her expressions.

Before we introduced the cake, Bonita and Cherish (mom and sister) hopped in for a couple of Mommy and me pictures together.

Then, it was time for cake! After a few minutes of just staring at the cake, I encouraged Bonita to put some icing on Carielle’s lips. Her curiosity was officially sparked! She began pulling fistfuls of icing into her mouth and looked up with the cutest little expressions.

She washed the cake down with her sippy cup and then decided that her sweet tooth was satisfied for the day — and yes, I kept shooting because I wanted Bonita to be able to share the whole story with her daughter when she is old enough to ask.
